oh the people who love us
we can't
let them go
like those two-hump-ed
camels
they go
where we go
if we try
to shake them
or leave them
behind
it's impossible
really
they never unbind
if we are
Hump One
well,
then they are
Hump Two
if we travel far
then they travel far, too
If we feel
alone
Hump Two has our back
when our load
grows heavy
Hump Two
takes up the slack
Hump Two
sways
just like you sway
and stops
when you stop
Hump Two lives
right beside you
and drops
when you drop
so if you
are wand'ring
alone
in some fright
remember Hump Two
though not
right in sight
is breathing
behind you
is on
the same road
Hump Two never
abandons
because that's
friendship's code.

Fear
She will tuck you in to bed
and let you dream
your days away,
shielded,
safely swaddled
from the worldly
windswept waves.
Your toes need never wander
from 'neath your
alabaster
king duvet,
nor flutter kick you
from the deep
to some distant shore
along your way.
With eyes unopened
she will rock you
in only her arms
will you sway
and the static of
her heartbeat
will remind you
how to pray.
and let you dream
your days away,
shielded,
safely swaddled
from the worldly
windswept waves.
Your toes need never wander
from 'neath your
alabaster
king duvet,
nor flutter kick you
from the deep
to some distant shore
along your way.
With eyes unopened
she will rock you
in only her arms
will you sway
and the static of
her heartbeat
will remind you
how to pray.
Blown Glass Reflections
Windows to the soul may shatter
visions of the future burn to ash
and still,
unceasing
immortal
the spark of the divine
ignites new forms
shaped by the heat of passion
cooled by the breath of love
visions of the future burn to ash
and still,
unceasing
immortal
the spark of the divine
ignites new forms
shaped by the heat of passion
cooled by the breath of love

Untitled
words from distant someones
filter in upon the night
trickle up into our senses
some hold anger
some hold light
some they want to jump right in
make all the jumbling go away
fix the broken little voices
call the children out to play.
we wrap them all in holiness
we listen and we pray
invite spirit now to lead us
since we seem to lose the way
we can feel the flutter fearful ones
betrayer and betrayed
so much easier to run and hide
we know though
we must stay
the me/not me it haunts us
as we seek to feel it all
the one
whose words
have not been heard
those who've seen
and been
the Fall
as shadows bend beneath the moon
our word wars dissipate
we feel the breath returning
the hour is growing late
we remind those distant little ones
to listen and to speak
to offer truth, perhaps regret;
and then, at last, to sleep.
